Canadian Electrical Contractors Association
About CECA
The Canadian Electrical Contractors Association (CECA) is a federation of provincial and territorial electrical contractor groups that serves as the national voice for Canada's electrical contracting industry. The Association was chartered on November 9, 1955, with its first elected President, Lucien Tremblay of Quebec. The early years were challenging for CECA, and it wasn't until 1973 that the organization became a viable and active national body. Since that time, CECA has established itself as the recognized national voice of electrical contractors across Canada. Today, CECA represents the interests of more than 8,000 electrical contractors across Canada who generate over $5 billion in revenues annually and directly employ 70,000 persons. Each member provincial or territorial Electrical Contractors Association (ECA) appoints one representative to CECA's Board of Directors. In jurisdictions with no provincial ECA, direct sustaining membership is permitted. CECA facilitates the sharing of provincial best practices and products, advances the interests and image of electrical contractors by developing contractor capacity and competency, influences public policy affecting the industry, and influences the creation of nationally consistent, safe, and efficient electrical codes and standards. The association works directly with national and provincial associations to ensure that the views it expresses are truly representative. CECA focuses on four key results areas: Training, Human Resources and Contractor Development; Commercial and Industry Practices; Electrical Codes and Standards; and Member Engagement, Communications and External Relationships. CECA has built strong relationships with other associations and coalitions that strengthen its advocacy position. The association holds the distinction of being the first and foremost International Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) in the United States, maintaining exclusive Canadian distribution rights for NECA documents, courses, manuals, and seminars. CECA is also a sustaining member of the Canadian Standards Association (CSA Group), appointing and supporting representatives to major CSA CE Code committees that govern electrical installation practices across all provinces and territories. As a founding member of the National Trade Contractors Coalition of Canada (NTCCC), CECA collaborates with other trade organizations on issues including prompt payment, standard contract forms, and management education. Additionally, CECA partners with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) in Canada through the National Electrical Trade Council (NETCO), an alliance that promotes national standards in electrical skills training and advocates on policy issues affecting both organizations. Through these strategic partnerships and its comprehensive approach to industry representation, CECA continues to advance the electrical contracting profession across Canada.
