Job costing software · CanadaKnow the margin while the job is still running.
Appello builds each job's budget from its itemized estimate, then adds approved labour, bills and expenses against it by cost code as the week goes on. Progress invoices carry the job's holdback and your GST or HST, and go to QuickBooks Online. The WIP report shows over and under billing as of any date. It is built for Canadian trade contractors and live today.
Job costing that knows it's in Canada
The numbers are the same everywhere. The paperwork around them isn't.
Holdback on every invoice
The job's holdback percentage carries onto each progress invoice, holdback to date shows on the job, and release goes out on its own invoice with its own terms.
GST, HST and PST
Tax rates are set once as tax types, with a default for new invoices.
Budget from the estimate
The itemized estimate, by cost code, becomes the job budget and the schedule of values. Nobody re-types it.
Budget vs actual by cost code
Approved labour, bills and expenses land on the cost code as they're approved. Codes spending ahead of progress show at risk.
WIP as of any date
Percent complete by cost, earned revenue, and over or under billing per job — for month-end, the bank or the bonding company.
QuickBooks Online, both ways
Invoices go to QuickBooks Online with the PDF attached, and paid status comes back.
What stays in your accounting system
- The general ledger, financial statements and bank reconciliation.
- Collecting payment — Appello shows an invoice as paid once QuickBooks Online does.
Questions Canadian contractors ask
Does Appello replace QuickBooks Online?
No. QuickBooks Online keeps the books. Appello keeps the job — budget, cost, progress and billing — and sends invoices and time across so nobody enters them twice.
How is percent complete worked out?
By cost: cost to date divided by the total cost you expect for the job. Earned revenue is the contract value times that percentage, and over or under billing is what you've billed minus what you've earned.
Can I bill a US general contractor?
Yes. Progress invoices can also export as a G702/G703-style workbook for GCs who ask for an AIA pay application.
