ServiceTitan alternativesBuilt for the service call, or for the crew on a six-week job?
ServiceTitan is built for service trades, residential and commercial: dispatching technicians, selling from a pricebook at the door, memberships and service agreements, with project billing added for construction work. Appello is built for ICI trade contractors running union or merit crews on multi-week projects, with agreements, trade levels, overtime rules, travel and board worked out before the hours reach payroll. ServiceTitan points contractors to a payroll partner for union rules and certified payroll. If your business is service calls, ServiceTitan is likely the better fit.
Why project contractors pick Appello instead
The difference shows up on a union crew's timesheet, not on a service call.
Union rules before payroll
Agreements, trade levels, wage regions and overtime rule sets price every hour. Approved days keep their rates when an agreement renews.
Travel, board and parking
Zones measured from the union hall, the office or the worker's home, or pay by distance. Paid once a day, on the right job.
Crews actually use it
Foremen clock the crew in by job and cost code on the phone. Clock-ins outside the job's geofence are flagged with a reason, not blocked.
Tickets checked on the schedule
The daily schedule shows each worker green, yellow or red against the job's required certifications. It warns before anyone drives to site.
Your own safety forms
Build hazard assessments and toolbox talks with 14 question types. Workers sign with a PIN and every submission is emailed to its recipients.
Margin while the job runs
The estimate becomes the budget. Approved labor, bills and expenses land on the cost code, and the WIP report shows over and under billing.

When ServiceTitan is the better choice
- Most of your revenue is service calls, maintenance and memberships rather than multi-week projects.
- Your technicians quote and sell from a pricebook in front of the customer.
- Your crews work where there is no signal and need the app to work offline.
- You run NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Vista, Spectrum or Foundation and want a ready-made connector.

Questions about Appello and ServiceTitan
Is Appello an alternative to ServiceTitan?
For ICI contractors whose work is multi-week projects with union or merit crews, yes. Appello prices every hour from the agreement, trade level and wage region, and adds travel and board, before payroll. For residential or service-first contractors who dispatch technicians and sell from a pricebook, ServiceTitan is the stronger product, and Appello's work orders are still in beta.
Does ServiceTitan handle union payroll?
ServiceTitan calculates pay, overtime and commissions and exports to your payroll processor. Its own material points to its payroll partner, Miter, for union rules, certified payroll and union reporting. Appello handles agreements, trade levels, wage regions, overtime rule sets, travel and board itself, then exports approved hours. Neither one fills in WH-347 forms natively.
Can Appello do service calls and maintenance work?
Partly, and in beta. Appello has work orders with labor, materials and checklists, and a dispatch board with technician rows, turned on per customer. It does not have memberships, a field pricebook or on-site selling. If service calls are most of your work, ServiceTitan or another service platform will fit better.
Does Appello work offline?
Not in the live app today. Clock-in and safety forms need a connection on the phone. ServiceTitan's field app lets technicians write notes, take photos, complete forms and close out jobs offline. If your crews regularly work without signal, test that before you choose.
