Prevailing wage software

Each job pays the wage table for its region

Each agreement keeps a separate wage table for every region you work in — a county, a city, a public-works area — and ties each job to one. Hours logged on that job are priced from that region's rates for the worker's trade level, so a crew that moves between regions is paid right, day by day. It is for union and merit contractors who bid work with set wage rates, and it is live today. Appello does not fill in certified payroll forms; it keeps the hours, classifications and rates they are built from.

Prevailing wage software: how it works

1

Build a wage table per region

Create a wage region for each area with its own rates. Copy your default table into it with one click, then change the rates that differ. Each rate is built from its parts — base wage plus items like vacation pay or health and welfare — and Appello adds them up.

2

Tie the region to the job

Every job carries a wage region. When hours are logged on that job, the row is priced at that region's rate for the worker's trade level. Two jobs in two regions on the same day get two different rates.

3

Set overtime by region

Overtime rules are set per agreement and per wage region, with daily and weekly thresholds and separate rules for weekdays and weekends. Where a region pays overtime differently, its rows follow its own rules.

4

Keep the record straight

The Timesheet Log shows the wage region on every row, beside the trade classification, the hours by rate and the labour dollars. A job's region can't be changed while it has approved timesheets, and a rate update never rewrites an approved day.

A normal week with it

  1. Before the job starts

Set the job's wage region when you create it. If the area is new, copy the default table into a new region and enter the posted rates.

  2. During the week

Crews log hours by job as usual. Each row prices itself from the job's region — nobody picks a rate from a list.

  3. Payroll day

Filter the Timesheet Log by job, check hours and labour dollars, then export to CSV for payroll and for your certified payroll paperwork.

What prevailing wage costs without it

Most shops keep public-work rates in a binder or a spreadsheet and hope the foreman flags the job. It holds until two regions show up in the same week.

  • Hours on a public job get paid at the shop rate, and the shortfall comes back as back pay.
  • Someone looks up the posted rate for every classification, every pay period, by hand.
  • A worker on two jobs in two regions in one day gets one rate for the whole day.
  • When the paperwork is due, the hours, classifications and rates live in three different places.

Prevailing wage software: common questions

Does Appello produce certified payroll reports like the WH-347?

No. Appello does not fill in the WH-347 or any state certified payroll form. It holds what those forms are built from — hours per worker, per job, per day, with the trade classification, wage region, hours by rate and labour dollars — and exports it to CSV for your payroll provider or certified payroll tool.

Can one worker be paid different rates on the same day?

Yes. Appello prices each job on the timesheet from that job's own wage region, so four hours in one region and four in another are each paid at that region's rate for the worker's trade level. Overtime follows each region's own rules too, and the Timesheet Log shows the wage region on every row.

What happens when the posted rates change?

In Appello, you enter the new prevailing wage rates with the date they start. Hours before that date keep the old rates, and approved timesheets are left alone — a rate update never rewrites an approved day. Before you save, Appello lists the open timesheets that will change.
