Clock in on the job. The hours land on the timesheet.
Appello's time clock runs on each worker's phone. They open the job they are scheduled to, tap Clock In, and tap Clock Out at the end of the day. The hours go straight onto that job's timesheet row for the office to approve, so nobody re-types a paper sheet on Monday. It is built for foremen and crews on insulation, mechanical, electrical and sheet-metal jobs, and it is live today in the Appello mobile app.
Construction time clock app: how it works
Clock in from the job
The Clock In button sits on the job the worker is scheduled to, so the job is already picked. Anyone with permission can clock in to a job they are not scheduled on. A short note can go with the clock-in and the clock-out.
Switch jobs without clocking out
Morning at the hospital, afternoon at the plant. The worker switches jobs from the open shift, and the hours split across both jobs' timesheet rows at the moment they switched.
Check where and when
Turn on geofencing and every punch is checked against a circle around the job, with a reason required for any punch outside it. Punch times are checked against the server's clock, so a phone set to the wrong date or time is corrected or flagged for review instead of trusted.
Approve what came in
Clock-out writes the hours onto the timesheet row and sends it for review. Break time from the worker's agreement is added at clock-out. The office approves or rejects punches in bulk from the Clock In / Out report, and can turn on rounding so punch times snap to a set interval, such as 15 minutes.
A normal week with it
- Monday, 6:58 a.m.
The crew clocks in from the job on their phones. The foreman adds a note: mechanical room 3B, jacketing.
- Wednesday, 12:30 p.m.
Two workers move to another site after lunch. They switch jobs from the open shift, and the afternoon lands on the second job.
- Thursday evening
One worker forgets to clock out. The office sets the time from the report, and the worker gets a notice that an administrator clocked them out.
- Friday
The office approves the week's punches in bulk. Approved hours are already on the timesheet, ready for the payroll export.
What time tracking costs without a time clock
Paper sheets and group texts record what someone remembered on Friday, not what happened on Tuesday.
- Hours are rounded up from memory, and nobody can say which job the afternoon belonged to.
- The office re-types every sheet into payroll and chases the ones that never came in.
- Job costs show labour a week late, after the budget is already gone.
- A missed clock-out turns into a sixteen-hour day that someone has to catch by hand.
Construction time clock app: common questions
Can a foreman clock in the whole crew at once?
No. In Appello each worker clocks in on their own phone. A foreman who keeps the crew's hours can use bulk crew entry instead, which puts twelve people's hours on the timesheet in one pass. The office can also add a clock-in for a worker from the desktop.
Does the time clock work for workers on more than one job a day?
Yes. A worker switches jobs from the open shift without clocking out. Appello closes the hours on the first job and opens them on the second at the moment of the switch, so each job's timesheet row gets its own hours.
What happens if someone forgets to clock out?
The shift stays open. From the Clock In / Out report, the office sets the clock-out time and approves it, and Appello tells the worker an administrator clocked them out. The hours land on the timesheet like any other punch.
